Maher Arar



Maher Arar courageously fought to hold Canadian authorities accountable for their role in his �extraordinary rendition� to Syria in 2002 where he was beaten, tortured and forced to sign a false confession.

On September 18, 2006, the Commissioner of the Inquiry, Justice Dennis O'Connor, cleared Arar of all terrorism allegations.

Arar�s wife, Monia, has written a memoir about her fight for Maher�s release from Syria, entitled , in 2008.

Maher and Monia continue to advocate for the full implementation of Justice O�Connor�s recommendations.
